What kind of musings are You doing? There is none to counter You.

nōṭi māṭa jārcaga rādurā kōṭi vēlpulalō mēṭiyaina nīv(ēṭi) nōṭi-māṭa jārcaga rādurā kōṭi vēlpulalō mēṭiyaina nīvu-(ēṭi)

It is not appropriate to slip on one's promise; what kind of musings are You – the excellent one among crores of Gods – doing?

While the great sages proclaim – that among numerous heroes You are the One who would not retreat, that You are not the One who speaks two words, and that You are the One who rules crores of Universes, O Lord praised by this Tyagaraja! what kind of musings are You doing?

• ²reṇḍu māṭalu āḍu – go back on one’s word. Please also refer to Kriti 'oka māṭa' - rāga hari kāmbhōji, wherein Sri Tyagaraja praises Lord Rama as one who is true to his word.

Commentary

• ¹yōcana – In some books this has been translated as 'hesitation'. This Telugu word and the same Tamil word 'yOsanai', though colloquially used to mean 'hesitation', the actual meaning is 'deliberation' 'reflection' etc.
