Commentary

  • 1kārmuka – As per Monier’s Dictionary, the word is derived from kṛmuka. Any bow is called kārmuka. Bows are called by different names - 'cāpa', 'dhanus', 'kārmuka', 'kōdaṇḍa'.
  • 5haya mukha – hayagrīva – horse necked; this is one of the Avatara of Lord Vishnu; Though Vaishnavas count this as an Avatara, generally, this Avatara is not counted among the Dasavataras.
