dārini1 telusukoṇṭi
tripura sundari ninnē śaraṇaṇṭi
O Tripurasundari! I have come to know the Path;
I seek refuge in You alone.

Anupallavi

māruni janakuḍaina mā daśaratha
kumāruni sōdari dayāpari mōkṣa (dārini)
O Sister of our [Rama, who is] Dasaratha's son and Cupid's father!
O Most Compassionate! (I have come to know the path) to liberation.

amba trijagadīśvari mukha jita vidhu
bimba ādi puramuna nelakonna
kanakāmbari namminavārikabhīṣṭa
varambulosagu dīna-lōka rakṣaki
Mother! O Queen of all the three Worlds, whose face surpasses
the orb of moon [in beauty]! One stablished at Thiruvotriyur!
One wearing golden garments! O bestower of boons desired by the faithful!
O Saviour of the wretched!
ambuja bhava puruhūta sanandana
tumburu nāradulanduru nīdu
padambunu kōri sadā nityānan-
dāmbudhilōnōllāḍucuṇḍē (dārini)
(The path) in which Brahma, Indra,
Sanandana, Tumburu and Narada,
seeking your holy feet, always remain sporting
in the eternal ocean of bliss, (I have come to know).

mahadaiśwaryamosagi2 toli karma
gahanamunu koṭṭi brōcu talli
guha gaja-mukha janani
aruṇa paṅkēruha nayanē yōgi hṛt-sadanē
O Mother who protects by granting abundant wealth and
by destroying the forest of karma accrued earlier!
O Mother of Subrahmanya and Vinayaka!
O Red Lotus eyed! One resident in the hearts of ascetics!
tuhinācala tanaya nī cakkani
mahimātiśayammula cētanu
ī mahilō muni gaṇamulu prakṛti
virahitulai nityānandulaina (dārini)
O Daughter of Himavan! I have come to know the path by treading which – in this World, the sages, with the help of Your great wonderful might, remaining unattached to the phenomenal World, became eternally blissful.

rājita maṇi-gaṇa bhūṣaṇi
mada gajarāja gamani lōka śaṅkari
danuja rāja guruni3 vāsara sēva
tanakē janma phalamō kanugoṇṭini
One radiant with ornaments of gems!
One with gait of an elephant in rut! O Bestower of auspiciousness to the World!
I could behold your Friday worship,
not sure because of which birth's fruits.
ājanmamu peddalu tama madilō
nī japamē mukti mārgamanukona
rāja śēkharuṇḍagu śrī tyāgarāja4 manō-hari
gauri parātpari (dārini)
(The path) that the way to liberation lies in your japa,
which was understood by the great all their lives;
O Conqueror of the heart of Siva, who wears the digit of the moon!
O Gauri, greater than the great!

  • 2aiśwaryamu – Eight kinds of powers – aṣṭa aiśwarya – vision, audition, cogitation, discrimination, omniscience, and active powers – swiftness of thought, power of assuming forms at will, and faculty of expiation. Some also consider eight siddhis such as aṇimā, laghimā etc are also aiśwaryaṃ.

Commentary

  • 3danuja rāja guruni vāsara - Friday – bṛgu vāra or śukra vāra : śukra is the guru of asuras (danuja).
  • 4tyāgarāja – Here it refers to the name of Lord Siva at Tiruvotriyur.
