ē dāri sañcarinturā yika palkarā ē dāri sañcarinturā ika palkarā

Which path shall I take? Do tell me soon.

Anupallavi

śrīdādi madhyānta rahita sītā samēta guṇākara nē-(nē dāri) śrī-da ādi madhya anta rahita sītā samēta guṇa-ākara nēnu (ē dāri)

O Bestower of Prosperity! One without a beginning, middle or end! O Lord united with Sita! One endowed with all virtues!

Charanam

anni tānanu mārgamuna canaga tannu vīḍanu1 bhāramani yāḍedavu nannu brōvu dāsa varada yaṇṭē dvaituḍanedavu tyāgarāja nuta (yē dāri) anni tānu anu mārgamuna canaga tannu vīḍanu1 bhāramu ani āḍedavu nannu brōvu dāsa varada aṇṭē dvaituḍu anedavu tyāgarāja nuta (ē dāri)

If I follow the path of Advaita, You say that it is difficult to overcome ego; if I pray ‘please protect me, O bestower of boons to devotees’, You say that I am a Dvaitin. One praised by Thyagaraja!

Commentary

• ¹tannu vīḍanu – to overcome ego. The difficulty in pursuing the path of Advaita is brought out in Srimad Bhagavat Gita, Chapter 12, Verse 5.
  • “Greater is their trouble whose minds are set on the Unmanifested; for the goal of the Unmanifested is very hard for the embodied to reach.”
