Pallavi
1dinamē sudinamu īśvari nannu 2kṛpa jūḍa | O Isvari! Today is the auspicious day for You to shower grace on me. |
Anupallavi
dīna dayāpariyani jagamandu moraliḍa mariyoka daivamu nyāyamu tīrcu (dinamē) | While in the whole World, it is declared You to be very compassionate towards the humble, would any other God do justice to me? |
Charanam
bhava sāgaramu tīrci brōcuṭakidi mañci samayamu kāvavē talli śrī 3latāṅgiyani satatamu ninu kōri pūja jēsina tyāgarājuni brōcu (dinamē) | O Mother! now is the opportune moment to protect me by ending the Ocean of Worldly Existence; therefore, deign to save me; that day is the auspicious day when You shower Your grace and protect this Thyagaraja – who constantly worships seeking You by chanting Your name ‘Sri Latangi’. |
Commentary
- This kRti is available only in the book of TK Govinda Rao; in that book, it is listed in the category of ‘doubtful’, which means it is doubtful whether this Kriti was indeed composed by Sri Thyagaraja.
- 1dinamē – In view of the following observation about ‘kṛpa jūḍa’, in Pallavi ‘dinamē’ has been translated as ‘today’. When connecting to Anupallavi and Charanam, it has been translated as ‘that day’.
- 2kṛpa jūḍa – ‘jūḍa’ does not complete the sense. This should be ‘jUDu’.
- 2kṛpa jūḍa – The way the wordings of Anupallavi is framed, neither it can be connected to Pallavi nor a complete meaning be derived. Either the word ‘tīrcu’ should be ‘tīrucunā’ (an interrogation) or instead of ‘daivamu’ it should be ‘daivamā’ (an interrogation). Otherwise, the meaning is incomplete. As this Kriti is not found in any other book, no cross verification is possible.
- 3latāṅgi – latā means creeper - one of the names of Mother as also ‘aparṇa’. However, as latāṅgi is the name of a Raga, many composers have written songs praising Mother as Latangi. This name is not found referring to Mother in any major Stotras. The name of Raga itself seems to be attributed to the Mother.
